Singapore opens center to shift focus from treating illness - longevity wellness center
Singapore’s new Signature Longevity & Wellness Centre marks a shift from illness treatment to proactive health strategies in Asia’s preventive care evolution.

The focus on extending healthy years rather than just life expectancy is reshaping preventive care across Asia. Fullerton Healthcare Group has inaugurated its first Signature Longevity & Wellness Centre in Singapore, signaling a broader trend toward proactive health management instead of reactive treatment.

Historically, healthcare systems concentrated on addressing illnesses after symptoms appeared. Today, patients and workplaces are shifting toward early intervention strategies to postpone or prevent disease onset. Ho Kuen Loon, the group CEO of Fullerton Health, observed that client discussions increasingly center on this evolution. Patients want to remain healthy for longer, rather than simply live longer, Fullerton Healthcare Group Pte. Ltd. “In the past, people just wanted to live longer,” Ho said. “The notion today is that they really want to increase their health span rather than just their lifespan.”

The demand for preventive services has risen significantly. The company documents growing participation in executive health assessments and routine medical evaluations across Singapore and the Philippines. Immunization campaigns and wellness programs are also gaining traction. Unlike conventional annual physicals, the new facility employs shorter intervals, every three or six months, for monitoring and mitigating risks before they escalate.

For conditions such as raised cholesterol, the approach begins with dietary modifications and lifestyle adjustments, escalating to medical intervention only when necessary. Ho stressed that this method lowers long-term expenses by preventing more aggressive or costly treatments later. “By doing all these things, we are very certain that we can avoid more costly treatment later,” he said.

Employers represent a primary motivator for the center’s establishment. Fullerton Health administers wellness initiatives covering over one million employees in Singapore, with high engagement in executive screenings and workplace vaccinations. Businesses now seek concrete evidence that preventive measures deliver tangible benefits, even if outcomes require years to manifest. However, employee involvement remains limited, currently only about 20% to 30% participate in screening programs despite employer sponsorship.

“We try to convince people that it is for their own good,” Ho said. The center will operate in conjunction with the Aspire Surgery Centre, a dedicated day-surgery unit, while Fullerton Health will evaluate the model based on clinical results, recovery metrics, cost efficiency, and patient responses. Plans for a second longevity center in either the Philippines or Indonesia are underway, with an expected opening within the next two to three years.
